Several studies have indicated that a lack of cross-cultural understanding can impact productivity in the workplace. In today’s global workforce, communication skills are critical to maintaining good working relationships. As English is the language of international business, for bilingual professionals who speak English as a second language, the ability to communicate with clarity is, therefore, a priority.
This short e-course is tailor-made for Japanese executive support professionals who must utilise their bilingual English skills to communicate effectively in multinational settings. Through a series of online lectures, tutorials and an end-of-course coaching session, the Global Communication Skills for English-Japanese Bilingual Assistants will deliver an understanding of the native English-speaker communication style.
You will explore perceived and intended messages based on the Japanese-speaker communication style and context. You will learn effective English language communication strategies to avoid misunderstandings and work collaboratively in global business settings.

The Curriculum
The Communication Skills for Bilingual Japanese Assistants focuses on understanding the cultural nuances that impact communication style. It is a comprehensive program that includes the following six components:
Pre-Program Questionnaire - allows your trainer to understand your current topic knowledge, career goals and learning objectives.
Online on-demand tutorials and lectures
Virtual workshop/coaching session with your trainers
A multiple-choice test to establish knowledge growth
Final Post-program Questionnaire

The Program’s curriculum includes lectures on the following topics:
Communicating effectively – what it means in the native-English speaker context
Values and assumptions
Communication style differences
Practical strategies for effective communication
Patterns of communication
Language of diplomacy
Understanding the international organisation and the agile leadership
The lectures are followed by a practical assignment discussed in the virtual workshop. This workshop will also be a confidential forum to discuss and share any challenges and barriers impacting communication with global colleagues and counterparts. In the process, we will deliver fresh communication strategies. All workshop sessions are treated as confidential and are not recorded.

Once enrolled in the Program, you’ll have access to the companion Workbook to support your learning and professional development goal attainment.
The Workbook includes exercises, worksheets, self-reflection questions to help develop your global mindset and much more. It is an important resource that will be vital as you prepare for the end-of-program coaching session.

Students have the option of selecting a Private or Group program.
Both Programs include self-paced learning and a final end-of-program virtual coaching/workshop.
The Group program includes access to the Group workshop where we host a maximum of 6 students.
The Private program’s workshop session is dedicated to one student only.
Payment of Enrolment Fee
All course fees published are “all-inclusive”, which means you don’t need to pay extra for the coaching component or materials that form part of this course. The Global Assistant Online accepts all major credit cards. Invoicing is available on request. Invoices can be provided for payment in Japanese Yen with the amount calculated based on current exchange rates.

Your Global Assistant Student Account

Every registered student has access to an online Global Assistant Student Account, which hosts their selected courses and programs. To register as a student, create your Student Profile.
Keep your login credentials in a safe place and use them every time you need to access your course/s.
Any Programs you purchase are listed in your Global Assistant Student Account, under the "My Courses" menu.
Accessing your Online Content
The Program content is available to you for four (4) weeks. However, you determine the start date!
Once you purchase your Program, we'll guide you through the process to access the curriculum on your nominated start date.
The online content is made up of separate modules, each with individual video lectures and written instructions available in easy-to-manage, short tutorials, viewable at any time and on any smart device. This allows you to pace your learning and fit lectures as your schedule permits.
The Program's content/lecture order is fixed and must be viewed in the order presented in the curriculum. Think of this process as knowledge building blocks. Each step is guided by the program moderators who partner with you throughout your learning journey.
Programs may contain any combination of the following elements: a series of short, easy-to-follow, self-paced lectures, self-reflection exercises, test-your-knowledge assessments and takeaways for reflection and discussion during virtual sessions.
Your Global Assistant Student Account has no limits on access. Your Programs, however, do have a specific time limit, so please ensure you allow time to complete all required components. If you need a little more time to complete the Program, please request an extension. We are happy to consider your request because we know and understand that the work of an assistant is very demanding!
Virtual group workshop/private Coaching session
All Global Assistant Online Programs have a coaching component. Coaching sessions are scheduled throughout the training calendar, and your session is booked through the booking scheduler embedded in the corresponding booking page.
Our workshops and coaching sessions are invaluable opportunities to validate and reinforce your learning. You can select either a group or private coaching session at the time of program purchase.
These sessions serve as a 'wrap-up' of the Program and provide the opportunity to workshop various case studies and 'real-world' practical situations.
The Bilingual Program is limited to 6 pax in every group workshop, which runs up to a max of 2hrs in duration. Private coaching sessions are limited to 90mins duration.

Lead Trainer/Program Author - Trish Butera, Founder, The Global Assistant Online - Australia
Trish Butera is a former international bilingual executive assistant, instructional designer, executive intercultural consultant and executive career coach.
Trish is an Australian-based business executive and international business protocol specialist and intercultural advisor. She is the founder of 60ZONE Pty Ltd, a consultancy established in 2014 which brings together subject-matter experts to assist organisations to leverage cultural intelligence for strategic global engagement.
As an instructional designer, Trish has developed and delivered training programs for diverse organisations across industry sectors including banking, academia, finance, pharmaceutical and hospitality. She has partnered with HR specialists to provide bespoke L&D content and facilitated onsite and online workshops, group training and individual coaching sessions in the areas of cultural awareness, cross-cultural communication, intercultural leadership, event protocol and intercultural protocol.
In 2020 Trish established The Global Assistant Online to create global skills learning programs for administrative professionals. Her experience as a former international bilingual executive assistant has helped to bring a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities for global assistants. Trish is based in Sydney, Australia.
